Your traffic screenshot means nothing (and everyone already knows it)

You've seen the post: a founder drops a screenshot of a spiky analytics chart, "insane month 🤯", thousands of likes. Be honest about your first reaction. It probably wasn't admiration — it was "sure, on your best day, with bots, and which tool is that anyway?"

That reflex is correct, and it's why screenshots have quietly stopped working as proof.

A screenshot is the easiest number to fake

Not even fake, usually — just flattered. You can pick the best 7-day window. You can show sessions instead of users, or lump direct and referral in with organic. You can screenshot a tool that counts bot hits. And if someone really wants to lie, editing a number in dev tools takes fifteen seconds. The reader knows all of this, so a screenshot carries almost no weight in the moments that count — raising, selling, landing a big customer, getting a partner to take you seriously.

Estimates aren't proof either

"Fine," you say, "SimilarWeb says I get 40k a month." But SimilarWeb, Ahrefs and Semrush don't see your traffic — they model it from clickstream panels and keyword math, then extrapolate. For small and mid-size sites those guesses swing wildly. Enter your real numbers next to theirs and watch the gap; it's often 50%+. An estimate is someone else's guess about you. That's not evidence.

What actually counts as proof

One number can't be flattered or guessed: the clicks Google itself recorded for you. Google Search Console is Google's own ledger of how many times someone clicked through to your site from search. Pull it read-only and you have a figure you can put in front of an investor or an acquirer without a caveat — the same way TrustMRR made verified Stripe revenue the norm for founders who used to just claim an MRR.

Show a badge, not a screenshot
